    ACT UPDATE:

    ACT has sent specific guidance concerning testing if there is a late start or no school on the testing day.  ACT testing will now be on March 12.

    Students will need a sack lunch for either of these testing options.

    The Media Center is looking for a person who wants to earn Honor Cord Hours. Prefer someone who is willing to stay on Wednesdays from 1:30-3:00 or from 3:00-4:00 twice a week. Contact Mrs. Schmerbach in the Media Center if interested.

     

    The CM Athletic Booster Club meetings is tonight (Thursday) at 7PM in the HS Commons.  We have an exciting meeting tonight with the voting of two new officers, reviewing different concepts for new signs showcasing our athletic accomplishments, and reviewing three coach’s requests.  Hope to see you all there!

    TOMORROW, February 22:  Middle school dance "shopping" night.  Students (and parents) can come to the small gym at the MS/HS school between 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. to try on clothes.  There is no cost to take any of the clothing items!  

     

     

    Meetings/Important Events Taking Place:

     

    This year’s dinner theater theme is BLAST FROM THE PAST.  Tickets are on sale for $10 in the high school office.  Concert is March 16.  Dinner is at 6:00PM with performances following.

     

     

    If you are still interested in becoming a Mentor, YSS will be here Friday, February 22, during Win time in Ms. Martin room.  Students that are in process of becoming mentors please attend this meeting as we need to completed some paperwork.

    Our local Ames AAUW would like to sponsor qualified 7th grade girls to attend the STEM program,TECH TREK, at Buena Vista University this coming summer. The university has extended the application deadline from February 15, 2019 to March 15, 2019. 

    We would appreciate if you would share information about the program with your Science teachers and your 7th grade students. We would love for girls interested in Science to apply.

    Summer Job Opportunity

    Are you looking for more than just a job? Put your skills to work in a hub of the community as a Nevada Public Library Student Clerk! If you love interacting with people and you’re great at noticing things that other people miss, this is the job for you. You’ll help library patrons by checking items in and out, assisting with finding books and other library materials, and answering a variety of questions. You’ll also get a first look at new library materials as you prep them for the shelves, and you’ll put away materials after they’ve been checked in. Shifts are after school until 8:00 PM 1-2 evenings a week and occasional day time hours on Saturdays.

    On March 8, the C-M Middle School will be having their winter dance.  The kids are getting excited and looking forward to the evening!  While it is not a requirement, many of the students like to dress up for the occasion.  We would like to give all students the opportunity to have a nice outfit for the dance and so we are inviting families to donate used Homecoming or Winter Formal dresses, along with shoes and/or accessories for the girls, and dress pants, dress shirts, shoes and belts for the boys.  

     

    If you have items that your older Raider/Spartan students no longer need and you would like to donate them to the current MS students, you may drop them off at the MS/HS building or send them with your student to give to Mrs. Staudt.  Please have items on a hanger.

    MATHCOUNTS MEETINGS: 

    Middle school students 6-8th:

    Meetings will be held WEEKLY on Tuesdays and Fridays from 7:15AM – 7:55AM

    The MS Formal dance will be Friday, March 8 from 6-8pm in the small gym. The theme for the dance this year is "Country Nights". Students do not have to dress according to the theme and more information will be coming very soon!

    DMACC Foundation Scholarship is due Friday March 1st @ 4:00pm

    We are now accepting applications for the 2019 Brian Pearson Memorial Scholarship. This is a scholarship in honor of former Iowa State University basketball player Brian Pearson, who died of brain cancer in the fall of 1997. We have been awarding this scholarship since 1998. This scholarship is awarded to one male and one female each year. Applicants must be high school juniors or seniors for the 2018-2019 school year who have previously participated in any Iowa Games events (Summer Iowa Games, Winter Iowa Games, Iowa Games Net Fest).

    Seniors great scholarship opportunity at DMACC: 

    DMACC is offering the Accumold Scholars Program that is opening enrolling in DMACC's Tools & & Die, Machinist Technology, CNC Operator, Electronics Engineering technology or Robotics & Control Systems Engineering Technology Programs. 

     

    Accumold, a precision mold-building company in Ankeny, Iowa has elected to proved at least 4 scholarships each year. This scholarship would be in conjunctions with a job at the Accumold Company with the anticipation of full-time employment after graduation from DMACC.

     

    DMACC is hosting an information meeting on Tuesday February 26th at 6:30pm in Building 3E, Room 101 at DMACC Ankeny Campus. Representatives from Accumold and DMACC will explain the program and answer questions.

    SMALL GROUP JOB SHADOW DAYS (link to details & registration):

    DMACC has Small Group Job Shadow Days might be an option for some students who find it difficult to set up a job shadow on their own.  Their goal is to add opportunities to this list throughout the year as businesses agree to host.  11th and 12th graders  are invited to take part in Small Group Job Shadow Days.  Students will have the opportunity to meet with professionals and learn about and observe the career and employment opportunities within that business.  If possible, students will get an up-close look at specific jobs/careers at the company. Events will last from two to three hours.  These events are for students only.  Transportation is the student’s responsibility.
